Hi everyone here! I'm a new comer to English Salon and I'm very grad to become a member of this club. First of all I’m going to introduce myself to you.

I’m a 17-year-old Chinese emigrant; at age of 11 I came to Portugal to join my family. I lived in a small city in North of Portugal for several years, and of course, attending a Portuguese school. Due to language problems I found extremely difficult communicating with my colleagues, sometimes I cried at home to my parents telling them I want to go back to China. Everytime I went to school I was sad because I had to spend whole day with Portuguese, and the way to school it took me half an hour of walk while the way back to home only needed ten minutes as I was running at high speed as a horse. Fortunately, my colleagues and teachers all paid much attention to that “strange small eyed black haired Asian girl”, they taught me to speak Portuguese with great patient. Some colleagues invited me to have a dinner (I have to admit those meals cooked with traditional Portuguese recipes were delicious!) in their house, because they found interesting enough to present a Chinese friend to their family. I began to enjoy the school and the so called “hot blood” western Europeans, gradually, I have adapted myself to this new country.

I was successful in my studies, but even though I disliked the Portuguese teaching system. I came up with ideas of studying abroad, such as going to UK or USA, well, an English spoken state because it is my favourite language (apart from Chinese, of course). But my parents thought I was too young to go abroad, also, my English is not good enough, they would like me to finish senior school here in Portugal and then apply for a foreign university. Meanwhile, they found an IB (International Baccalaureate) school in Lisbon for me; I moved to the new IB school and live in my uncle’s house. This is the third year I’m here in Lisbon; I have finished MYP (Middle Years Programme) and this year I started my IB Diploma. The three higher level subjects that I take are: Maths, Physics and Business&Management.

Although I have been in Portugal for 6 years, my Chinese culture remains inside me. I always loved to talk with Chinese people, and that’s the reason for I am here, I can talk with Chinese friends and at same time practice English, that’s entertainment and study put together!
