Hemingway often thought of courage as a persons ability to be calm and controlled in the face of death. His theme is presented in his novel "For Whom the Bell Tolls?" the story "The Old Man and the Sea" and in our textbook "A Days Wait".By misunderstanding a different thermometer the boy thought he was running a high fever and would soon die.But he took his death bravely and waited quietly for it.The boy showed us he had courage.
I think such a definition of courage is far from enough.Courage should not be limited and related only to death. In ordinary life there are common things that also show a persons courage. For example,on a bus trip,a thief was trying to steal a girls purse. Some people saw it,but kept quiet. They were afraid to be revenged by the thief. The brave stood out and stopped the thief.
Courage means truth and justice to me.The person in a high position often hear songs in praise of him. Some people are sincere. Some are only flattering the superior in their own favor. The leader also needs courage to welcome criticism as well as those who have the courage to criticize him.Such courage may come from mutual understanding.I think a man of courage will value truth and justice, and not hesitate in his actions to do what he thinks is right,There is no such word as fear in his dictionary.
Courage is very important. Everyone needs it. We will meet many difficulties in our life and sometimes we will fail, but we cant lose courage. If we lose courage, we cant do anything, because we dont dare to do anything; we are afraid of failure. This is my Chinese teacher me in the first class. I agree with him. For example, we dont have the courage to hands up to say our answer, how can we know we are right or wrong. I will remember his word forever,” never lose courage .”
Don't Lose Your Courage
Never shall I forget the first English lesson given by MiLiu. On that day, when she entered the classroom,we found that she was a young and beautiful lady with a big smile on her face. Then she introduced herself saying that we should call her MiLiu instead of Teacher Liu,a moment later, she let all of us go to the blackboard and say something about ourselves in English in turn. When it was my turn,I felt so shy and fearful that I didn't dare to say a word before the class. She came up to me and said kindly.
“Don't be afraid. I believe you can do it. Come and have a try.” My face turned red when I heard that. At last,I went to the blackboard and was able to do it quite well. She praised for what I had done. Up to now,I can still remember her words in the first English lesson:“Practice makes perfect. Don't lose your courage when you meet with difficulties. Try on and on until you succeed.”
Its beyond reproach that we will come across all kinds of difficulties and challenges in our life time .Some will be subjected to frequent sadness .Some will lose their way to move on .Thus, only when we equip ourselves with hope and courage can we finally succeed in the uncertain future.
Forrest Gump showed so great courage in the movie that he touched me a lot . For one thing,no matter when and where Jenny got into trouble ,Forrest Gump would bring her out of it without thinking how dangerous the situation would be .Maybe we should all fell ashamed that we love ourselves more than we love love ,but Forrest showed great courage in love .For another,Forrest gump risked his life to save Bubba in the war.Its courage that helped Forrest gain a series of honor after war .Forrest Gump is beautiful for his perseverance and touches others with his courage.
A person cant do without courage in terms of love and friendship ,let alone life . A weak person may avoid the difficulties ,but a person with courage will face up to it head-on. Therefore, letequip ourselves with great courage.
In the matter of courage we all have our limits. There never was a hero who did not have his bounds. I suppose it may be said of Nelson and all the others whose courage has been advertised that there came times in their lives when their bravery knew it had come to its limit.
I have found mine a good many times. Sometimes this was expected--often it was unexpected. I know a man who is not afraid to sleep with a rattle-snake, but you could not get him to sleep with a safety-razor.
I never had the courage to talk across a long, narrow room. I should be at the end of the room facing all the audience. If I attempt to talk across a room I find myself turning this way and that, and thus at alternate periods I have part of the audience behind me. You ought never to have any part of the audience behind you; you never can tell what they are going to do.
